How to Reinstate Car Insurance

Car insurance is required by law throughout most of the United States. There are times that car insurance may lapse due to many different reasons. The process to reinstate car insurance, with the right knowledge, can be smooth and easy going. There is a step-by-step process than can be followed to ensure that car insurance can be reinstated after a lapse.

The process for reinstating car insurance depends on one major thing; how long the policy has been lapsed. In order to start the reinstatement process, the insured needs to:

  1. Determine how long you have been without insurance as this can lead to actually reinstating the policy or starting brand new from scratch. The standard time for reinstatement is 30 days. After 30 days the policy has to be started from scratch.

  2. Gather most recent insurance cards so the policy number is readily available.

  3. Call your agent office or the company number if the local office isn’t open.

  4. Let your agent know that you are interested in reinstating your car insurance.

  5. After listening to your available options for car insurance, choose the one you want.

  6. Decide on your payment plan and make a payment.

In many states having car insurance is the law. Once you have it, you have to maintain it continuously. There are occasions, however, when car insurance is allowed to lapse for whatever reason. In this case, knowing these steps will be a definite benefit when reinstating car insurance.
