How to Remove Fine Scratches From a Car Wash Brush
Car washes can seem like an easy solution to a dirty problem. Some of the older model car washes use brushes that can scratch a car's paint. Even the newer models may have trapped dirt that can also inflict damage. If the scratch is on the clear surface, there are ways to fix them with relative ease. Follow the instructions of the product and buff your car back to its glossy original finish.
- Check your car carefully after going through a car wash. Check the car if you have a vehicle that you believe may have undergone this process. Dirt may have become trapped in the bristles or pads being used.
- Visually inspect each scratch closely. If the scratch is hardly visible or is a whitish color, it has probably only transcended the clear outer layer. These types of scratches can be fixed with relative ease.
- Check the scratch for any brown or darker color. The scratch will likely be more visible and look deeper. This type of scratch has likely damaged the actual paint layer and will need repainted to repair. Take it to a professional unless you have the knowledge, equipment and experience to do it yourself.
- Get help from someone who knows about automobile paints and purchase the right equipment. A salesperson at a reputable automotive supply shop may be helpful.
- Purchase your product and some soft buffing cloths. These cloths are found at a place that sells automotive supplies. Get one that is for waxing or drying.
- Read the directions and test the product on an area that is not noticeable on your car. Look for small scratches lower down.
- Continue the process on the other scratches if the test was effective. Wipe and buff in a circular motion. Make sure you follow the directions exactly. Some products fill in the scratches, while others may remove a layer of the paint.
- Take your car to a professional if your efforts did not work.
