How to Remove Folding Doors

Folding doors have been used for some time, particularly for storage areas such as closets, pantries and utility rooms. They are useful because they take up less space than traditional doors. However, like all things, they must be replaced at some point.

Directions:

  1. Completely pull out your folding door. In the case of a double folding door, both of the sides need to be opened. The upper track to the door will be equipped with a pilot bracket, which looks like a flat piece of metal connecting the upper pin of the folding door.

  2. Use a flat screwdriver to turn the screw in the pivot bracket. It needs to be turned in a counterclockwise direction to loosen. Hold on to the twin folding door sections along their respective sides.

  3. Move the upper section of the door in the direction of the center. This will cause the door to become free of the pivot bracket. Pull up on the lower part of the door, freeing it from the floor bracket. Move the door away from your work area.

  4. Using a Phillips screwdriver, take the screws out of the top track holding it to the opening of the door. It is best to take the center section of screws out last. While holding on to the track, unscrew the center screw, and pull the track out of the door opening.

  5. Unscrew the screws for the bottom track using the Phillips screwdriver. Pull the tracks out of the floor.
