How to Remove Media Network Services in Windows Vista
Windows Media network services perform in the PC’s background as the computer runs. The media network services take up processor speed and can slow your computer down if you do not use the services often. It may be necessary for you to remove or disable media network services from functioning in the PC’s background.
- Disable media player sharing service.
- Open the Control Panel. This should be located on the start menu of the computer.
- Click Classic view on the left pane
- Double click Administrative Tools on the right pane
- Double click on Services icon in the Administrative Tools
- Click the Continue button if dialog box comes
- Double click on the media player sharing service in Services window which appears
- Select Disable on the media network sharing services dialog box
- Click Apply button
- Click OK button. If you proceed back to Services window, the value beside the media player sharing service, at the Startup column will be disabled.
- Disable media network services or center using Registry/ Group policy.
- Run GPEdit.msc or Group Policy Editor
- Expand the computer configuration or User configuration
- Expand the Administrative Template
- Expand Windows Components
- Select media network services
- Change setting to Enabled
- Stop the media network technology from startup.
- Run the system configuration using MSConfig and proceed to the tag Startup.
- Uncheck item entries with ehome, e.g. ehTray.exe
- Disable media network services, as below
- Disable media network services
- Open services, by typing services.msc on the start search
- Locate all the services in the media network center, e.g. Windows Media Center Receiver Service, Windows Media Center Service Launcher and Windows Media Center Extender Service. Disable the respective Startup Type.
