How to Remove Rust From Fishing Lures
Rust on a fishing lure hook can cause tetanus if a person punctures himself. Rust can also ruin a person’s fishing lures. There are ways to prevent and remove rust from fishing lures, and the process is not too difficult. Just be cautious when dealing with rusty items.
Items needed:
- Scrub brush
- WD-40
- Scouring soap pads
- Water
- Rubber gloves
- Bucket of hot water
- Towels
- Cover your hands with a pair of rubber gloves to protect them. Rubber cleaning gloves can be purchased in the cleaning isle at many department or grocery stores.
- Fill a bucket with hot water, and soak a scouring soap pad in it. Scrub away at the rusty lure with the pad until all of the rust has been removed.
- Place the cleaned lure into the bucket of hot water to rinse it.
- Dry all of the lures you clean up with a dry towel. Make sure not to leave any excess water on the lure to prevent rust from occurring again.
- Purchase a can of WD-40 from the local hardware store to treat each lure. Simply spray the lures down with the lubricant carefully.
- Use another towel to dry off any extra WD-40 to complete the job. Leaving too much lubricant on the lure can cause a mess in the tackle box. After the lubricant is applied, the lures should be cleaned and protected from rust.
- The lures will need to be treated with WD-40 after every few uses to prevent them from rusting again.
