How to Remove Sliding Patio Doors
The maintenance or repair of your sliding glass doors begins with removal. For some, this task is can be daunting due to lack of experience. Yet the removal of your sliding door is no where near as difficult as you might think. With a little time and the right tools, you can have that door out and ready to replace or rework in no time.
- Know where to start. Your sliding glass door is comprised of two separate units. One unit slides open, and the other unit remains stationary. Stand outside and look at your door. If the stationary door stands between you and the portion of the door that slides, it will have to be removed before proceeding.
- Remove the stationary door unit. If you discover that the stationary door is your way to proceed then you will want to remove any screening or screen door if you have one. Lift one end of the screen doorframe and use a screwdriver to pop the roller on the bottom off the track. Do this to both ends.
- Remove the screws. Take all screws from the stationary door and set them aside. Once the screws are removed, try tugging or pulling on the door to remove it from the frame. If you have difficulty, try using a screwdriver between the door’s bottom frame and the track it rests on. Lift the screwdriver upwards to break the seal with the track and remove the door.
- Repeat. Now that the stationary door is removed and well out of the way, repeat this process with the remaining sliding glass door.
