How to Remove Stains From Countertops
Most people like for their kitchen to be sparkling clean because it is where they prepare their food. The countertops in a kitchen should be free of stains due to the fact it is one of the first things people look at when they walk into the room.
It is not always possible to avoid spilling something on the countertops in the kitchen. If the spill is allowed to stay on the counter for an extended period of time it may cause a stain. It is recommended that the stain be removed as soon as possible because once the stain sets it is much harder to remove.
- Make cleaning solution to remove the stain. Mix hydrogen peroxide and flour to make a paste to remove food stains. Substitute the peroxide with dishwashing soap if it is an oily stain.
- Use a plastic putty knife to apply the cleaning solution on the stain.
- Cover the paste with a piece of plastic wrap and secure the edges with tape. Do not use masking tape because it may remove the protective coating on the countertop.
- Poke several small holes in the plastic so air will be able to circulate to the paste, which will allow it to draw the stain out as it dries.
- Allow the paste to remain on the stain for at least 24 hours for the best results.
- Remove the plastic and use the plastic putty knife to scrape off the dried paste.
- Use a damp towel to remove the remainder of the paste. You may need to repeat the process if the stain is still visible.
