How to Rent a Floor Cleaning Machine

Clean floors are an indication of a clean house. But getting and keeping them that way can be expensive if you're relying on an outside service to do the hard work for you. Fortunately, floor cleaning devices can be rented so that you can keep your floors looking spotless for a fraction of the cost.

  1. Locate a store or shop that rents floor cleaning equipment. This may vary depending on the type of floor cleaning device you are interested in. For example, a grocery store may rent carpet cleaners while they may not have the right instrument for cleaning other floor surfaces.

  2. Consider how much you want to spend on a rental and use this as a guide when shopping for rentals. If you are quoted a price, verify how many days the rental is for. If there is a possibility that you'll need the floor cleaner longer, find out what the fees are for additional days.

  3. Look at the units that are appropriate for the type of floor that you are cleaning. They should also be easy for you to handle and maneuver around your space. If you are unfamiliar with a particular machine, ask for a brief demonstration if possible. If this is not a possibility, ensure that you have the instructions in hand before leaving the rental shop.

  4. Look over the machine to ensure that it is properly clean. There should not be any visible dirt, hair or other debris on the brushes or attachments. If the unit looks dirty do not rent it.

  5. Take into consideration how much flooring must be cleaned and how heavy of a job it will be. For example, if you are cleaning an extremely dirty carpet in a large room, you may need a machine with a lot of power and a large water tank. If you have a smaller space with a carpet that is not overly soiled, a less powerful unit with a smaller tank may be sufficient.

  6. Review the rental contract carefully. Review what steps you should take if the machine is not in good working order when you get it home.

  • Make certain that you have the appropriate supplies necessary for cleaning your floor with the machine you've rented.
