How to Rent an RV For Camping

Camping in the great outdoors is a lot of fun and gives you the chance to reconnect with nature. However, if sleeping in a tent is not for you and you want something that feels a bit more like home, an RV may be a good alternative. An RV generally has a kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom.  If you can’t afford to purchase an RV, you can always rent one for your trip.

  1. Decide how many people will be going on the camping trip. Because you will be sleeping in the RV, it is important that everyone has a place to sleep. Larger RVs generally sleep more people, so plan accordingly when you are looking at rentals.  Make sure that the beds are at least six feet in length so that everyone is comfortable.

  2. Identify your needs and desires for the RV. Some may not have running water whereas others may offer showers and fresh water toilets. If you want an entertainment system with a DVD player, you may need to upgrade the RV rental package.

  3. Search online or look in the phonebook to find RV rental sites near you. RV rental company websites will oftentimes give you photographs, videos, specifications, and rates for each of their RV offerings. Season, location and availability will all play a factor in how much the rental will cost.

  4. Find out about additional fees that may be associated with the RV rental. Gas, of course, will be a large additional cost as some RVs only get around 10 miles to the gallon. Make sure you find out if you will need any additional insurance or supplies, and ask the campgrounds you will be staying at about fees associated with parking your RV.

  5. Visit the RV rental location so that you can look at the RVs you are interested in.  You may also want to test drive a few if you have never driven an RV as driving one can be quite different than driving a car or truck.
