How to Repair Cracked Granite Kitchen Counters
There is nothing that can make a kitchen look more beautiful than granite countertops. Not only do they greatly enhance the appearance of the kitchen, but they are also fairly easy to take care of. They should be properly maintained to retain their beauty and any minor cracks should be repaired as soon as possible.
How to Repair Cracked Granite Kitchen Counters
- Use a 50/50 mixture of ammonia and warm water or acetone to clean the surface of the countertop. Do not use anything that will damage the finish of the granite.
- Allow the granite to dry thoroughly.
- Purchase some granite epoxy and mix it according to the instructions. The epoxy can be purchased at your local home improvement store. You will also need to purchase a color pigment kit. It should be similar in color to your granite.
- Mix the pigment according to the instructions and add it to your epoxy.
- Use a small foam brush to spread the epoxy in the crack. You can use a toothpick if the crack is really small.
- Use a towel to remove any epoxy that is outside of the cracked area. It should be removed as quickly as possible because once it hardens it will be hard to remove.
- Apply some granite sealer over the epoxy in the crack and allow it to set for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
- Apply another coat of sealer.
- Allow it to set for 24 hours.
