Things You'll Need
- Utility knife
- Scrap lumber
- Drill
- Drywall screws
- Drywall seam tape
- Spackle
- Putty knife
- Medium grit sandpaper
- Vacuum cleaner
- Paint
- Cut out a square in the drywall around the area where the hole is. This can be done with a utility knife or other sharp cutting tool. Cut or find a piece of scrap lumber that will fit inside of the drywall hole and secure the wood piece inside of the hole using a drill and at least two drywall screws.
- Measure out and cut a new piece of drywall to fill in the space in the wall making sure that the new piece fills up as much of the hole as possible. Use a drill and a few drywall screws to attach the drywall to the piece of wood you placed in the wall.
- Cut four pieces of drywall seam tape and place it over the seams in the drywall you have secured. With the tape secured use a putty knife and spackle to fill in the seams over the tape and also to fill in over the drywall screws. Wait for 24 hours to let the spackle dry completely.
- Sand the areas where you have placed the spackle on the new drywall with medium grit sandpaper. This should be done until the spackle is smooth and flat with the rest of the surface of the wall. Clean up any dust that you have created by sanding with your vacuum cleaner.
- Repaint the area where the new drywall has been placed with a color that matches the rest of the wall. If you do not know what color the wall is painted use primer to cover and protect the new drywall piece.
