How to Repair Motorcycle Tires
Materials Needed
- Pliers
- Auger
- Cement
- Plug
- Plugging tool
- Wire cutters
- Inspect the tire for the object that caused the need for repair. Pour soapy water over the tire and look for bubbles. This will be the area that needs the repair. Remove the object with the aid of pliers.
- Insert an auger into the hole. Push and pull the tool in and out of the hole about 12 times. This will smooth the edges of the hole. The smooth edges will help the plug stick better.
- Apply cement over the plug and insert it into the plugging tool.
- Push the plugging tool into the hole along with the plug. Pull the plugging tool out quickly, which will leave the plug in the hole.
- The end of the plug will stick out. Use wire cutters to cut as much of the end of the plug as possible. You want to make sure the plug is flush with the motorcycle tire.
- Allow the plug and cement to set for 20 minutes. You may have to allow more time for the cement to set in warm weather.
- Fill the tire with the proper amount of air for the specific tire.
