How to Repair Salt Damage on Concrete Driveways

Using salt on your driveway is helpful in preventing your driveway from freezing over. However, if your driveway was installed within a month of applying the salt, any ice accumulation on your driveway will cause damage. Damages often consist of large cracks in your driveway. Repairs for these damages are not expensive and are rather simple.

How to Repair Salt Damages on Concrete Driveways:

Step 1: Remove large loosened areas of the driveway first.

Step 2: Create a large perimeter around the damaged areas. Use a hammer and chisel to create cracks around this area; pry up these areas once they are loosened.

Step 3: Sweep up all debris left over. Rinse the driveway thoroughly using the garden hose. Allow the driveway to dry for 24 hours.

Step 4: Apply a concrete bonding agent over the surface areas that were damaged. Ensure that you also cover the edges and sides.

Step 5: Combine your concrete patching materials with water in a large bucket. Using a trowel, apply the concrete patching material onto all damaged areas. Smooth out the concrete patching material completely using the trowel.

Step 6: Cover the repaired areas with a large tarp. Tape the edges to secure it. For the next seven days, remove the tarp and rinse the repaired areas with the garden hose. Reattach the tarp securely.
