How to Repair Soles on Shoes

Before throwing away your shoes with broken soles, you may want to consider repairing them. Once you have removed any dirt and old glue, the sole of a shoe can easily be glues back to the shoe to make it as good as new.

Items Needed:

  • Newspaper

  • Knife or razor blade

  • Rubbing alcohol

  • Adhesive

  • Cotton ball or cotton swab

  • Sand paper

  • Plastic bag

  1. Lay a sheet of newspaper on a desk or table. This will help protect the surface from damage as you are repairing the shoe.

  2. Use a small knife or razor blade to cut any thread that are lose between the shoe and the broken sole. Pull the sole as far back away from the shoe as possible.

  3. Pour the alcohol onto a cotton ball and use it to clean both the shoe and the sole. This will remove any dirt or old adhesive that may prevent the new adhesive from working properly.

  4. Use the sandpaper to sand both the shoe and the sole. This will help the pieces adhere to each other easily.

  5. Apply the adhesive to the sole and shoe and push both pieces together. Cover the shoe with a piece of plastic wrap and set a heavy object on top of it. This will hold the shoes together while the adhesive dries. Read the adhesive packaging to determine how long it will take the adhesive to dry.

  6. Once the adhesive has dried completely, you can remove the plastic and wear it.
