How to Repair Tires on a Big Truck

The tires on your truck sprung a leak and you need to fix it, but you don't have the money to take it to a local shop. You can repair the tires in no time, and you can save money, too. Here are some steps to follow:

  1. Get materials to fix your truck's tires. You will need: a lug wrench, a jack, a portable air tank, a bucket of soapy water, a scrub brush, a pair of needle-nose pliers, and a tire plug kit.

  2. Break the lug nuts that are on your big truck. You can do this by using your lug wrench.

  3. Lift your truck up with your jack, and remove the lug nuts and tire.

  4. Find out where the hole is in your tire. If your tire is flat you will need to inflate it by the portable air tank. If there are no notable punctures, then dip your scrub brush in your soapy water and run it across the tire. The escaping air that comes from the leak will cause the soapy water to bubble.

  5. Prepare your tire plug kit. It should consist of a hand tool with a small handle, and a long slender protruding piece of metal and several plugs. At the end of the metal hand tool there will be an eye hole that resembles a giant sewing needle. Slide the tire plug through this hole. Make sure later you have this tool when you remove the hole in the tire.

  6. Remove the cause of the leak in your tire. The leak can be caused by anything from glass to a nail, but most tire punctures are caused by nails. If you are having trouble pulling out the nail, use your needle-nose pliers.

  7. Jam the slender end of the plug tool in the hole in a slight, circular motion. Then pull out quickly and insert the tire plug, then jam it back in and take out again. This is done to embed the plug firmly in the hole.

  8. Replace the tire, lug nuts and lower the jack.
