How to Replace Maytag Appliance Parts
Maytag appliances have a reputation for lasting a long time with relatively little maintenance. Even so, the time will come when something has to be replaced. Fortunately, there are several potential strategies for locating and ordering the Maytag appliance parts you need, and being able to enjoy your appliance for a few more years.
While Maytag products are well known for high efficiency and lasting a long time, even these quality products will require some repairs from time to time. Depending on the age of your appliance, securing the parts you need for the job may be a little difficult. Fortunately, there are several possible sources of Maytag appliance parts, even for machines that are no longer in production.
- Start with the retailer who originally sold you the appliance. Even if the model you have is no longer being manufactured, the retailer may have a sizable inventory of parts on hand that are ideal for your machine. If not, the retailer may be able to tell you if the part can still be ordered from the manufacturer, or if another Maytag part designed for newer models will also work in your machine.
- Check with local appliance repair shops. Even if your Maytag appliance is no longer under warranty and the model has been discontinued, there’s a good chance that local repair professionals will have at least some of the parts you need on hand.
- Contact the manufacturer direct. In some cases, you may be able to provide the make and model number for your appliance and be given a listing of original parts that are still available as well as a list of Maytag parts that are designed for newer models, but will work in your older machine. From there, you can place a direct order and soon have the replacement parts required to get your machine back up and running.
- Try secondhand shops. You may find a used Maytag appliance that is the same make and model as your machine. When this is the case, you can always buy that used model for a reasonable price and harvest parts off the unit. This strategy will allow you to keep your appliance running for years with relatively little investment in replacement parts.
- Look around the Internet. When local sources come up dry and the manufacturer no longer has any parts to offer, do some browser searches for the part you need. Often, you can connect with online businesses that offer used parts for your appliance. Make it a point to also check online auction sites, as there is always the chance of coming across Maytag appliance parts offered for auction, especially when the parts are for older appliances that have been discontinued.
