How to Report an Animal to County Animal Control
Your local county animal control agency is utilized to enforce county ordinances pertaining to domesticated animals. This agency also coordinates with efforts of local wildlife preservation services to relocate potentially dangerous animals from residential and/or highly populated areas to habitats appropriate for these animals.
- Contact county animal control directly during business hours to report dangerous animals and/or stray animals inside the county jurisdiction. Provide the officer and/or clerk who answer the phone with information pertaining to the animal including: animal type, the location in which the animal was found and the possible violation of county and/or city ordinances.
- Contact the county sheriff's department or call 911 when reporting animals after animal control business hours. Do not call 911 however unless it is an emergency. The county sheriff's department will contact the county animal control officer to report the animal.
- Call the county appointed animal control officer when contact information is provided after business hours. In some rural areas there is often an officer who performs animal control duties through city law enforcement agencies. If this is the case for your specific geographical area you could call this animal control officer directly to report the animal.
- Contact the county animal shelter to report an animal when the animal control officer and/or agency are not available. Generally animals that have been rescued, are abandoned and/or are in violation of city and/or county ordinances are often taken to the county animal shelter after capture. The clerks and/or workers within the county animal shelter could report the animal to animal control on your behalf. If the county animal shelter also performs animal control duties these individuals may also capture the animal to bring to the shelter.
