How to Resurface a Bathroom Sink
Many porcelain sinks are designed to last forever. But over the years these sinks can become scratched or scarred. Most people do not replace the whole sink they just refinish the porcelain. The sink can be resurfaced with a little patience, products, and a few tools.
Using a soft cloth clean the porcelain sink with trisodium phosphate. You can purchase trisodium phosphate at most home improvement and hardware stores. These chemical will remove any type of debris from your porcelain.
Take your fine grit-sandpaper and attach it to the hand sander. You will then sand the entire sink. Make sure you get every inch of the sink. You want to create a rough surface on the sink so the paint will take to the area better.
Finish the area with fine-grit sandpaper. This will help smooth the surface out. You want to then remove any extra debris particles with a wet cloth.
Apply a thin coat of bonding agent. You can use a thin cloth or sponge to do this. Allow this to dry for about 15 minutes.
Take your brush and apply the epoxy primer. Make sure this is applied evenly over the entire sink. Then apply a thin coat of primer. Give this about 20 minutes to dry.
Sand the sink with fine-grit sandpaper again. Clean the area with a damp cloth. Then put on another coat of the epoxy primer and allow to dry for 10 more minutes.
Finally apply a thin coat of acrylic to the sink using your large brush. Allow the first coat to dry and then apply extra thin layers. Allow your sink to stand and dry for 24 hours. The sink should not be used heavily for a week.
