How to Reuse Summer Clothes in Winter

When the days get shorter and the colder weather arrives, most people pack away their light summer clothing. If you wish to spruce up your winter wardrobe, consider keeping some of your summer clothes handy. There are many different ways that you can incorporate your summer clothing into your winter wardrobe.

  • Be selective. While you can wear a lot of your summer wardrobe well into winter, there are certain things that are better to pack away. These include light pastel colors, summery patterns and pale tones. Keep out pieces that feature darker, rich colors, shiny textures and classic lines.

  • Add layers to your tanks. This is the most obvious way to extend the life of your summer wardrobe. Consider adding cardigans and long-sleeve shirts over the top of your summer tank tops and camisoles. This is a great way to get more use out of your summer tanks, add warm layers as well as to use colors to brighten up a dreary winter. In addition to putting sweaters on top of a tank top, you can layer light-weight long sleeve shirts underneath your tanks to create a unique layered look. Add a heavy knit scarf over a light-weight top to create a warm and unique look.

  • Extend the life of your shorts and skirts. You can wear your shorts in winter simply by adding a layer of warm tights or leggings underneath them. The same can be done with short skirts. Though lightweight, flowing skirts might look silly when paired with leggings, a short denim or khaki shirt can look stylish when placed over solid-colored tights or leggings. Add a pair of knee-high boots and you have created a unique winter style.

  • Reuse your accessories. Summer is known for chunky, bright and colorful accessories. You can use these accessories to brighten up a dark winter outfit. Add your summer necklaces and bracelets to neutral winter basics to add color and pop to your look. You can add a light summer scarf to a heavy winter sweater to create an interesting appearance and a varied texture.
