How to Run a Clothes Shop
All retail markets is not created equal; clothing shops are in a different branch of the retailing industry. Fashion trends dictate what will sell in a clothing shop. If you don't have enough of the items people want to buy you not survive until the next fashion trend emerges.
- Read magazines, watch trends emerging on TV and pay attention to local trends. Bring some of the trendy items into your clothing shop. Look at your customer base to find out what is going to sell in your shop. Every trend will not work in every city, so you should monitor trends closely to stay in tune with changes.
- Stay within your budget when ordering new products. Do not over order products if they are new to your store. Different areas of town will sell different things according to what the local crowd likes to buy. If you are testing out a new product, order a small quantity and ask the customer as they checkout for their opinion about the piece.
- Keep your staff in the loop about what is going on the store. Train employees about the clothes you want to carry. Customer will ask your staff about items they are looking for and ideas. It helps if you have staff that can answer questions about fit, fabric and fashion trends.
- Look at your store expenses on a weekly basis. Do not wait until the end of the month to digest the monthly numbers. If you see a decline earlier in the month, you may be able to turn that around before the period ends.
- Reward you customers and your employees. Setup a system of rewards for your customers for buying your products, also reward your staff for getting sales. Keep everyone happy and most of them will come back.
