How to Save Money Shopping for Clothing
Shopping for clothing can be fun, but it can also be expensive. Luckily, there are ways to save money on clothing for every season. This may involve waiting to shop and being more observant of the deals being offered in your area.
Look Out for Sales
You can usually always find a clothing sale somewhere; whether it is a small clearance section at your local clothing store or a well-advertised storewide sale. The first step is to watch your local paper for advertisements and pay attention to commercials, as many large retailers will buy a TV spot to advertise big sales. The second step is to look for a clearance section each time you go to a store that sells clothes. You may have to look often to find something good at a low price.
Use Consignment Stores and Sales
Consignment stores offer high-end used clothing for a fraction of the cost of new clothing. These stores are often very selective about what they will take in, rejecting anything with stains, rips or holes. Consignment sales usually happen twice a year and usually feature children's and maternity clothing, toys and gear. Since these sales usually only last for a few days, you have to know when they are happening.
Shop in the Off Season
Retailers put out winter clothes long before it snows and summer clothes while snow is still on the ground. They also start marking down these items while they are still usable for the year. You can find good deals on winter coats, boots, jeans and long-sleeved shirts as early as October or November. You can get the same good deals on swimsuits, shorts and tank tops as early as May or June.
