How to Select Scented Geraniums
Scented geraniums are perennial flowering plants. As a perennial scented geraniums could live for years with the right care and attention. As a flowering plant these scented geraniums have petals that vary in color. Like other flowering plants they often lose their flowers throughout the seasons. Unlike azaleas, which are poisonous, these plants are safe to eat.
- Select scented geraniums based on their scent. What makes these plants unique is that they have the ability to mimic scents associated with other flowers such as roses. These plants also mimic scents associated with candy such as mint or chocolate. There are also scented geraniums that have a fruity scent such as pineapple.
- Make your select based on the purpose of the plant. If you are planting a small flowerbed consider the smaller variety of scented geraniums, which only grow to about 12 inches in height at the most. If you wish to use the scented geranium as a mosquito repellant consider the citronella variety as they grow up to four feet in height and work exactly like the candles of the same name.
- Choose your scented geraniums based on your geographical area. If you live within a warm to subtropical area it is safe to plant these scented geraniums in your outdoor flowerbeds. If you live in an area with harsh winters select your plant based on the amount of room you have inside your home for such plants.
- Make a final decision based on color. It is easiest to coordinate white scented geraniums with any other color of flower. However with these plants you have several color choices including lavender.
