How to Select the Right Footwear for Spinning
Spinning is an intense aerobic workout that is performed indoors on a special spinning bike. While spinning bikes are available for home use, workouts are generally performed in a spinning class that is led by an instructor at a gym. When participating in this exercise it is important to select and wear the right footwear so that you can avoid discomfort and injury.
- Set a budget before shopping for your spinning shoes to help you avoid overspending. Try to set your budget so that you are not getting the cheapest shoe, which may lack in quality, but a pair that is reasonable enough not to break the bank.
- Ask your instructor what shoes are recommended before you start shopping. If you are unable to get a recommendation on a specific shoe, ask what qualities you should look for in a good spinning shoe and what you should avoid.
- Go to a local shoe store that specializes in athletic shoes and has a decent selection to choose from. Ask to see their cycling shoes.
- Look for shoes that have recessed cleats. These, in addition to rubber soles, are good for safety purposes when walking in a gym and to help you maintain traction.
- Choose fabric that is breathable. This will help keep your feet cool by allowing air at your feet to circulate. Because of the intensity of the workout your feet will be prone to sweating and odor, which can be reduced by wearing the right pair of shoes.
- Look at the soles of the shoes. They should be stiff in order to help eliminate foot fatigue while pedaling. In addition, a stiff sole allows for better leverage on the pedal.
- Try on the shoes and lace them up. The laces should feel secure across your foot to provide adequate support and hold them in place while you are cycling.
