How to Sell Art At an Art Gallery

If you are an artist, you have many options for selling your art. One great venue for selling your pieces is at an art gallery. In order to sell art at an art gallery, you should put together a portfolio, find out the application process for the gallery and apply for a show.

  • Put together a portfolio. Your portfolio should include an artist's statement, your resume and well photographed samples of your work. You should have a physical copy of your portfolio as well as a digital copy. If you do not already have a website that showcases your artwork, create one. Make sure you have your website address and contact information on your business card.

  • Get information about the art gallery and their application process. Visit several art galleries online. Most galleries will have information about past exhibitions on their website, so be sure to take a look at those. Some galleries prefer a certain style of artwork. Make sure your work is a good fit before you continue. Check to see if they have any information about their application process on their website. If not, call or visit the art gallery.

  • Apply for a show at the gallery. Follow their instructions for application. If they want you to bring your portfolio in person, do so. If they prefer to receive a few digital samples of your work via email, then send samples of your work via email. Be sure to follow up if you do not hear from them within a few weeks.
