How to Sell Shoes to a Consignment Shop
Using a consignment shop can help a seller make some money on a used pair of shoes. Some consignment shops will not accept shoes unless they are in almost new condition. The seller should check with the shop manager to see if the shoes are an acceptable item for the shop to sell.
- Clean the shoes that you want to take in to a consignment shop. If the shoes are made of leather, polish and buff them to a nice shine. If you are selling a pair of shoes that you can put through the wash, clean them and let them dry. Inspect the shoes once you finish cleaning them, to make sure they look as good as possible.
- Look in the Yellow Pages to find a consignment shop. Call the shop manager to see if shoes are one of the items that a seller can bring in. If the shop accepts shoes, find out the hours of operation so you know when to drop by.
- Take your shoes in to the shop in a bag or other container. Ask to speak with the manager and show the shoes that you want the store to sell. Decide on the price to ask for the shoes while you speak with the manager.
- Get a receipt for your shoes before you leave the shop. Ask the manager how long the shop will keep the shoes up for sale. Find out how the shop notifies you once a buyer purchases the shoes.
- Authorize the manager to negotiate with a buyer if you want to sell the shoes fast. Many buyers haggle before purchasing an item at a consignment shop, so letting the manager negotiate is a good idea. Give the manager the minimum price that you will accept. Follow up on a regular basis to find out if the shoes are receiving any interest.
