How to Sell Used Wedding Gowns
Many brides store their wedding gowns after their weddings, but others choose to sell the dress once the wedding is over. Some couples prefer to try to recoup some of their cost from the wedding and do not see the wedding dress as a sentimental symbol that needs to be kept. There are several ways to sell your wedding dress.
- After the wedding, take your
wedding dress to the dry cleaners to have it professionally cleaned.
Make sure that all the stains are removed, as this will mean more
money that you will get for your dress. In addition, see if the dry
cleaners can press out any wrinkles that formed during the cleaning
or the wedding itself. Make sure the dress stays in the protective
plastic from the dry cleaners so that you do not get any new stains
on it before you attempt to sell it. - Gather all the information
concerning the dress such the designer, the name of the dress, and
style. Include details such as if the dress is an A-line, trumpet,
or ball gown. Write all the information down about the dress
including the length, size, and the color. Include information about
any lace or other glitter the gown may have. - Use the Internet to look for
consignment shops in your city. Give a couple of these shops a call
to see what their conditions are and if they would be interested in
selling your dress. Find out the percentage they keep when the dress
sells, this of course is important because it tells you how much you
will receive. They may want to see photos. Therefore, take some
crisp photos of the dress, close-ups, various angles, and so forth.
Meet with the consignment shop to show your best photos. They will
then decide if they want to sell the dress, if so, carefully bring
it to them in the dry cleaning plastic.
