How to Sell Vitamins Online

With the world becoming more health-conscious every day, an online vitamin and supplement store is a great idea for an entrepreneur.  Selling vitamins through an online shop requires little money when compared to opening a brick-and-mortar store.  In addition, more of the profits will go in your pocket rather than to bills and expenses.  Anyone can open a online vitamin store with a little time and effort.

  1. Decide how you will finance your online vitamin business.  Fortunately, starting a business that is solely online requires relatively little startup capital, as there are no overhead costs.  Most businesses selling items online are financed by the owner’s savings, along with loans from banks, friends and family.

  2. Determine if you will buy the inventory upfront or use a drop shipping company.  If you choose to purchase and store vitamins to sell, be prepared to delegate a storage space and obtain shipping materials.  Drop shipping is a popular option; you collect the orders and the drop shipper sends out the packages directly to the customer.  Keep in mind that the drop shipping company will take a large portion of the profits.

  3. Review the business laws in your state and county.  You will need to apply to start a business and obtain tax numbers and business licenses.  Be sure to have all the legalities in order before opening up shop and selling your first vitamin order.  Consult a lawyer to assist you with this process if you are unclear on the requirements of your state.

  4. Build the website that you will use as your storefront.  You may hire a professional web designer, but this can be very expensive.  There are many free website design programs available on the Internet that will enable you to design a store for free or very little money.  You will also need to locate a company to host your website.

  5. Test your website for functionality before bringing it online.  You will want to make sure customers can use your site easily and everything works as it should.  Visit your website from a third party’s computer and go through the steps of finding and purchasing an item.

  6. Advertise your business online.  Purchase ad space on search engine results and health advice sites.  There are also a number of free advertising routes, such as online classifieds and message boards.  Continually research different methods of online advertising to promote your vitamins and drive traffic to your site.
