How to Send a Fax Through Email
Many times, people find themselves needing to send a document that is saved on their computer to a traditional fax number. They may be always on the go and not near a fax machine or printer, or may just need the service one time. By signing up with an email-to-fax company, you can fax documents from your email by paying a per-use or monthly fee.
- Search the Internet and compare the different email-to-fax services. Signing up with a service is necessary to send a fax through email. Some services are free or offer a free trial but most often you will have to pay a fee to join one of these services. Compare the prices and what services are included in that price to find the appropriate company for you.
- Navigate to your email service on your computer and open up your inbox. Start an email in the same manner as you would when sending a traditional email, usually by clicking on Compose within your email.
- Address the email to the service company by placing the address specified by the company in the To field. You will receive instructions on what to put in the To box when you sign up with a company. For example, many services instruct you to put the recipient’s fax number as the beginning part of the email, the @ symbol and then email address of the company. Refer to the company you signed up with for specific instructions.
- Attach the document or documents you wish to send, using the same process you would when attaching documents to a traditional email. Check with your fax service company for limitations on size and number of attachments.
- Provide a brief description of your fax in the message area of the email. The fax service company will put the description on the cover letter when they fax the documents.
- Send the email after all information has been provided. The email-to-fax company will print it and send it using traditional fax methods to the number you provided. Do not send password protected or encrypted documents, as they will not be able to open and send these.
