How to Send a Fax to an International Number
It may be necessary from time to time to send a fax to an international number. The process itself is simple, but it will require a few extra steps. It's not quite the same as faxing something domestically. If you need to fax to an international number you'll need the country code and a line that allows international calls.
Faxing documents internationally isn't hard. You'll need a fax line or program that allows for international calls and the country code.
- Find the code you need for the country you're faxing to. Within the states you don't need anything other than an area code, but for other countries you need that specific code. The codes are available online in many places. Many public places that offer international fax services will also have a book for country codes.
- Find a machine that will allow for international calls. This will be quite a bit more expensive. The alternative is to use an online fax service, but if you don't already have this set up it may not be an option.
- Don't start by dialing 1. This is only used in the states to call between states and within North America. You'll dial 011 first, then the country code. Then dial the area code and phone number for the place you're faxing.
- Press send on the machine and wait for the fax machine to dial out. Wait for the fax machine to print out the confirmation report if this setting is on. If it's not on you may want to call to make sure your fax was received.
