How to Set Up Lawn Mower Stores

There are important considerations to make when deciding how to set up your lawn mower store. You need to take into account your client base, including homeowners and professional contractors. Consider the types of merchandise that you plan to sell, especially during winter months. The store needs to be set up to easily accomodate extra merchandise.

Things You Will Need:

  • Store inventory

  • Inventory display systems

  • Workstations

  • Garbage disposal system

  • Basic tools

  1. Arrange to have a show room. If you do not have adequate space in your establishment for a separate show room, declare an open, well-lit space for a mini show room. This will be a place to display lawn mowers, riding mowers and other equipment such as hedge trimmers and blowers. A show room or show space will allow your clients to see, touch and handle the equipment before purchasing.

  2. Set up display cases or units. Your display area should have an organized wall unit with hooks to display gardening gloves, safety goggles, yard tools and other accessories. You should have a place to store and display parts and accessories for the equipment that you sell so that you customers can easily repair and update their machinery at home.

  3. Install wall shelving to display and store large items. Merchandise such as gas cans, large safety equipment and replacement blades will be too large to display on a rack or in a case. Set up appropriate shelving to store these items. Arrange them in such a way that they are organized and accessible for your customers.

  4. Build a service counter. This service counter can be used to handle work orders, repair requests or the sale of small replacement parts. Likewise, it can be used for dropping off or picking up equipment and can serve as an information desk for customers who have a question.

  5. Create a repair shop if you desire one. If you plan on offering repair and maintenance services, set up a repair shop in the back of your store. Create work benches so that employees can easily store and access their tools. Ensure that the work shop is properly ventilated and well-lit.

  6. Set up a disposal service for oil and fuel wastes. Cities often have regulations related to the disposal of these fluids, so check to ensure that you are disposing of them properly.
