How to Set Up a CNA Training Program
A certified nursing assistant is commonly referred to as a CNA or assistant nurse. This type of nurse works hand-in-hand with a registered nurse to administer care to patients in a medical setting. When setting up a CNA training program you need to be sure that the program meets all state guidelines for CNA training.
- Determine where you will be getting the needed funding to open a CNA training program. You can apply for grants through both state and federal programs as well as take out a private or business loan to fund the program.
- Locate a commercial building that you can use to create a CNA training program. You can either choose to lease or purchase the location. Be sure that it is large enough to accommodate a lab, administrative section and classrooms for students.
- Contact local medical facilities in the area to determine who you are going to network with for the students to perform the required clinicals. This is very important because in order for the CNA program to be accredited, it must provide students with clinicals so that they have hands-on experience with real patients.
- Purchase the supplies and materials that you will need for classroom instructions, labs and administrative duties. Be sure that you have everything you need prior to starting the CNA training program.
- Hire a program administrator and instructor to teach the CNA training program. Make sure that the staff you hire has valid RN licenses.
- Contact the state in which the training program is located and apply for state accreditation. Being an accredited training program allows students to apply for certification upon completing the program.
- Enroll students in the CNA training program and teach the required information that students will need to work as a CNA.
