How to Set Up an Investment Consulting Business

If you are business savvy, you may want to consider setting up an investment consulting business. While it does take some previous knowledge of investments, you can develop the skills you need through online programs and build your business before you know it.

  1. Research all you can about different types of investments. This includes the pros and cons of each kind.

  2. Take college classes in business investment, if you have not already done so.

  3. Apply for the online certificate program from the Investment Management Consultants Association. The program consists of 12 self-taught modules that may be completed at your own pace.

  4. Study the material in each module in order to prepare for the test at the end of each self-guided lesson. Remember; study hard, because you must pass each quiz with at least a 70 percent.

  5. Wait for your certification of completion to arrive after you passed each quiz and completed all modules.

  6. Set up an office in your home. You can use your current office setup and purchase a filing system just for your home-based investment consulting business. You may rent space to conduct business; however, it is cheaper and more efficient to work out of your home.

  7. Locate where your target clients would be, and find ways to lure these individuals in. Place ads in your local newspaper, online, on craigslist or other similar places. Use social media networks to advertise your services. Create business cards to hand out to prospective clients when you are out. Use blogs as a method of advertising, also.
