How to Set a Garden Storage Shed
Properly setting your garden storage shed will help to keep it stable. You should place your shed in an area with good drainage. You will also need to check for building permits you may need, and to see if there are any restrictions to where you can place a shed in your area.
Materials:
- Shovel and a spade
- Hand Tamp or you can rent a vibrating one to tamp down the stone
- Crushed stone
- 2 X 4 to help with leveling
- Wood stakes, one for each corner
- Level
- Wheel barrow to move crushed stone to shed area (optional)
- Anchor kit
- String
- Gloves
Instructions:
If this shed is new and nothing has been on the spot you are using in the past, you should have your local dig safe come out to ensure there are no buried lines or pipes under the ground where you plan to install your shed.
Measure out the area where your shed will go.
Wear gloves to protect your hands.
Place a stake in the spot where each corner will be. Use string to make off the entire shed area.
Use a spade to dig out grass and rocks in this area. Dig down about 3 inches.
Use a 2 X 4 and a level to smooth out the area to make it even. Pay extra attention to the corners.
Put down landscape fabric. This will help keep the stones from sinking down into the dirt.
Use a shovel to shovel a 3 inch layer of crushed stone into the area cleared out for the shed. You might want to use a wheel barrow to transport the stone closer to the shed area.
Use a hand tamp to tamp down the stone. Use a level to be sure you are making the area level.
Place your shed over the stone. Use anchors to secure the shed. Follow the directions on the anchor package to install them correctly.
