How to Sew Hair Extensions to a Clip

Adding hair extensions to your hair is the easiest and quickest way to change your looks. Some people choose to make their own instead of purchasing them already made at a beauty supply store. Sewing hair extensions to hair clips is something you can easily do yourself.

How to Sew Hair Extensions to a Clip

  1. Use a tape measure to measure the hair extension to fit your head from ear to ear.

  2. Use scissors to cut the extension 1/4-inch shorter than the measurement. This is done to make sure that the extension will not be too long when it is attached to the clip.

  3. Attach the clip to the weft of the hair extension. The prongs of the clip should be facing outward.

  4. Use hair thread the same color of the hair extensions and attach the extensions to the clip by using a large needle to pull the thread through the holes of the clip and the thick weft of the extension and continue until you have sewn through all the holes. Make sure you keep the edge of the clip tight and flush against the edge of the extension. There should be two clips attached to each hair extension. One should be on the left side and one on the right side.

  5. Part your hair where you want to add the extensions and gently clip them in place.

  6. Continue to add the remainder of the hair extension to your head and comb and style your hair as desired.
