How to Shop for Web Designer Software

Today it is easier than ever before to be able to design and maintain your own website.  Regardless as to whether you are designing a business or a hobby site, you will need to use a web designer software application.  There are a lot of them available on the market, so you will need to know how to choose the right one for you.

  1. Determine what your needs are whenever it comes to editing websites.  If you are an experienced programmer, you may want to work with HTML manually instead of using a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor.

  2. Decide how you want to edit CSS (cascading style sheets).  The ideal web designer software should come with a CSS editor.  If it doesn’t, you will have to purchase an external CSS editor or do the editing manually.

  3. Make sure that the web designer software will allow you to edit XML.  This is important because this is the standard for managing online data today.

  4. Find web designer software that also includes a graphics editor.  This will save you money because you won’t have to purchase a graphics program.

  5. Know how you will communicate with your website’s server.  You may need software that supports a lot of different code languages (i.e. PHP, ColdFusion).  This also depends upon how much server-side editing you need to do.

  6. Decide if you need to be able to create websites in a variety of different languages.  There are only a few web designer software applications that actually support production in multiple languages because some of these languages require the use of special character codes.

  7. Look at the different prices between consumer and professional level web designer software.  If you only have some very basic needs, then the most economical choice is a consumer product that is designed for non-professionals to use.  On the other hand, if you are starting a web designer business, then you should invest in professional-level software.
