How to Size the Army Combat Uniform

Army Combat Uniforms are the most important pieces of a soldier's wardrobe. Soldiers are required to wear these uniforms in many situations, including operating posts, the field and combat areas. Army Combat Uniforms (ACU) are sized the same way on both male and female soldiers.

Things You Will Need:

  • Soft measuring tape

  • Ruler

  1. Know the uniform components. The Army Combat Uniform consists of a jacket, pants and combat boots. In order to properly size the complete uniform, you will need to measure for all of these articles.

  2. Measure for your jacket. You will need to measure the circumference of your chest in inches. Place the soft measuring tape around the widest part of your chest, located about two finger-tips below your armpits. This is your chest measurement. Your height measurement is your standard body height, from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head. This measurement is also in inches.

  3. Measure for your pants. Begin by measuring your waistline. Wrap the soft measuring tape around your waist, above your hip bones and below your belly button. Record this measurement in inches. Next, measure your inseam. Your inseam is the length from your ankle to your crotch. Measure this length in inches and record this measurement.

  4. Measure your feet to determine your boot size. Simply line the heel of your foot up with the end of your ruler. Measure your feet from the heel to the toe in inches to determine the size of your combat boots.
