How to Skate Faster
Skating is a recreational sport that many people enjoy for exercising and fun. Learning how to skate with speed and accuracy can be a huge benefit, no mater if it is for a sport or just for fun. With practice and patience you can learn how to skate faster in no time.
- Keep good posture at all times to help your balance and to create power in your skate. Make sure to always keep your head up to see where you are going. Don't bend from your waist, but bend at your knees and ankles at all times. This will help your muscles strength in your legs when pushing off the ground. Also, make sure that your shoulder, knees, and ankles are all lined up vertically.
- Work on your stride to optimize your speed. You should only have a quick few short strides in the beginning of your skating. This will allow you to pick up your speed quickly while maintaining your balance. Use long, strong strides to keep you focused and balanced.
- Create a good rhythm with your legs to help you to be able to accelerate faster when needed. Both legs should be working together pushing equally as hard as the other. Make sure to recover each leg before you push off with the opposite leg to help you with your stride and balance.
- Build up the muscles in your legs by working them out on a regular basis. Weight training for your legs, especially your thighs and calf muscles, will help build strength in your legs. The stronger your legs are, the easier it is to gain speed while skating.
