How to Smock Clothes
Smocking is a popular method used by many seamstresses to add detail and texture to clothing. The procedure has been around for several years and is now being used by those with less experience. It can be used on all types of clothing and is fairly easy to do.
How to Smock Clothes
Lay the fabric on a table or counter.
Pinch a small section of the fabric between your forefinger and thumb to create a pleat.
Secure the bottom of the pleat with a straight pin.
Use your forefinger to pull the fabric next to your pleat to create a second pleat and secure at the bottom with a straight pin.
Continue making pleats until you have reached the desired amount.
Use a needle and thread to secure the top of the pleats. This is done by pushing the needle through the top of each pleat one at a time.
When you have reached the last pleat, pull the needle to gather the pleats.
Sew a few stitches into the last pleat and tie the end of the thread in a knot.
Use scissors to cut off the excess thread.
Rethread the needle and repeat steps 6 to 9 to secure the bottom pleats.
Remove the straight pins and continue with the smocking until your have created 10 rows.
