How to Solder Electronic Parts On a Circuit Board
Today’s world would like you to think that you live in a throwaway society. However, you don’t have to live like that – when something of yours breaks you do have the power to fix it. Most electronic repairs can be done under a few dollars with a simple soldering gun or pen and solder. However, it’s important to fully understand the project before you start soldering.
Things you will need:
- Soldering gun or pen
- Damp sponge
- Alligator clip
- Buy a large tip soldering gun or pen.
- Tip your soldering gun or pen with solder before you apply your pen to the parts.
- Wet your pen with a damp sponge to get rid of solder clumps.
- Clean the soldering area of dirt or debris before you solder. Make sure your soldering gun or pen is hot before you start.
- Place your pen on the parts that need soldering.
- Apply your solder to the hot parts. Don’t put solder on the gun or pen itself – you will need to heat the leads and parts that need the connection.
- Remove the solder before you remove your pen.
- Unplug your pen after use and never leave it alone when it’s hot!
You can use an alligator clip as a heat sink to protect your electronic parts when soldering. When you solder electronic parts onto a circuit board don’t leave your gun or pen on the board. A soldering job should take less than a few seconds. Use a magnifying glass and a smaller tip for very small jobs. Always remember to solder in a well-ventilated area and never breathe in the solder smoke.
