How to Speed Up SSI Disability

The Social Security Administration office receives applications daily for disability benefits. Some applicants are in need of benefits immediately and it can be frustrating trying to get an application processed quickly. There are ways to speed up SSI Disability to prevent waiting for years. A fast approval can lead to getting the required help to improve your condition.

  • Provide the necessary documents to process the application. The approval process can be delayed, because of people being slow to respond to caseworkers.

  • File the appeal as soon as possible. If you are not approved for SSI benefits, then you will have 60 days to appeal the decision. Waiting until the deadline will add a four month wait to your case.

  • Ask doctors to write letters to the Social Security Administration office. The letter should explain why you are in dire need of benefits. When applying, you will need to submit a claim form from doctors and a narrative letter from them may help with speeding the process up for your disability claim.

  • Write an emergency need letter. You want to explain in the letter the reasons for expediting your claim. Examples of dire need for a speedy turnaround are housing, medical or lack of resources.

  • Include late notices for bills and eviction notices. If you are having financial problems with paying bills, then you want to include shutoff notices with the letter. This information is sent to OHA, or Office of Hearing and Appeals. Many people are unable to work after becoming disabled, which leads to not having money for living expenses.
