How to Spray Fruit Trees

Spraying a fruit tree is essential to the health of the tree. You can spray a tree to either apply fertilizer to the leaves and branches or to apply a pesticide to remove pests from the tree. You can easily spray down your trees yourself to help them grow healthy and strong. A healthy fruit tree will bloom better and produce fruit in abundance.

Supply List

  • Hose sprayer

  • Hand sprayer

  • Liquid pesticide or fertilizer

  • Respiratory mask

  1. Purchase a hand and hose sprayer from a local home improvement store in the area along with a pesticide or fertilizing treatment depending on the needs of the trees you are spraying.

  2. Apply a pair of thick rubber gloves.

  3. Mix the fertilizer or pesticide product that you have purchased according to the manufacturer’s suggested directions for use. Measure the ingredients carefully as too much fertilizer or pesticide can damage a fruit tree.

  4. Put on a respiratory mask to prevent inhaling the particles of fertilizer or pesticide while treating the tree.

  5. Fill the sprayer container with the fertilizer or pesticide solution that you have mixed.

  6. Spray down underneath the tree with the hand sprayer so that all leaves have been evenly coated with the solution. Do not overspray the leaves, as this can cause chemical burns.

  7. Use the hose sprayer to spray down the top areas of the tree that you were unable to reach by hand with the hand sprayer. Walk around the entire perimeter of the tree when applying to ensure that the tree's leaves have been evenly coated with the fertilizer or pesticide you are applying.
