How to Square a Metal Storage Building Frame

The process of squaring a metal building's frame is very simple. It is also, however, critical when it comes to building an outdoor storage shed. Making sure that the frame is square when assembling it is key to keeping it square. These simple instructions and the necessary tools will help make this job even easier.

You will need:

  • Level

  • Tape measure

  • (4) Anchors

  1. Decide where the first corner will be places and then completely layout the building's base. This is what the walls and floors will be attached to.

  2. Start with one of the front two corners of the building and anchor it in place. This is where you will begin to square the building.

  3. Use a measuring tape to find the distance between that corner and the one diagonal from it. Write this measurement down.

  4. Measure the distance from the other front corner to the one that is diagonal from it. If your first measurement and this measurement are the same, the base of your storage building is square. If it is not the same, slightly shift the frame and remeasure. Continue doing this until both measurements are the same.

  5. Secure the other three corners, and then continue with building the rest of the frame.

Tips:

  • If any of the measurements are even slightly off, the rest on the building components will not fit together properly.

  • Make sure you double check your measurements and make sure that the base of the building is completely level.

  • Being sure that the frame is secure will help make putting the rest of the storage building together even easier.
