How to Start Your Own Educational Learning Center

Educational learning centers are an excellent companion to the in-class learning experience. These centers provide students with the one-on-one attention that teachers are sometimes unable to provide in traditional classroom settings. If you enjoy helping others and value the importance of education, here are a few simple steps to assist you with starting your own educational learning center.

  1. Formulate a business plan. Your business plan will assist you in defining the objective and focus of your business. There are countless resources available on the Internet that have various templates and examples to assist you with writing your business plan.

  2. Register your business with the IRS. All business need to apply for an Employee Identification Number (EIN). This identification number is required before you can file for a business license.

  3. Apply for your business permits and licenses. The exact process for this step will vary from state to state. Contact your local small business authority for details on the process in your local area.

  4. Meet with a banking specialist about setting up a business account. Most banks will provide a small business checking account free of charge.

  5. Find tutors. When you first begin your business it is likely that you will be the only tutor. When you are ready to expand and hire more staff members, look for tutors who specialize in the area in which they will be providing services. For instance, a registered nurse would be an excellent match for a student who is studying for a nursing career.

  6. Finalize your pricing. The amount that you charge for your services should be formulated based on the qualifications of your tutors or instructors. Draft-up an agreement that you will require each client to sign prior to providing services for your legal protection.

  7. Locate a facility that will house your educational center. Starting out you may not have adequate funding to rent or purchase your own facility; however, you may be able to negotiate an agreement with a local church or community center for a minimal fee.

  8. Begin advertising. Consider using popular social networking sites in order to spread the word about your services until you are able to afford a trained marketing specialist.
