How to Start a Cosmetic Company in Your Kitchen

In order to start a cosmetic business in your kitchen, you will need to be aware that there are laws that apply to the sales of homemade cosmetics supplied to you by the FDA. Be sure to check with your local municipality in order to find out what is required in order to sell your line of homemade cosmetics.

  1. Use the Internet to locate the rules and regulations provided by the FDA in regards to the marketing and sales of cosmetics.

  2. Decide on the type of cosmetics that you would like to make. It is best to choose a product that will appeal to a certain niche such as mineral makeup, or makeup that targets dry or oily skin types.

  3. Look up recipes online to familiarize yourself with the materials that you may need in order to make your cosmetics.

  4. Purchase the supplies that are needed for your line of cosmetics. These products will vary depending on the type of cosmetic line you are going to be making.

  5. Label all cosmetics with ingredients from the most to least used in the product. This is required in order to be in compliance with the FDA.

  6. Contact your local municipality to find out what license and permits you may need in order to legally sell your cosmetics to the public.

  7. Make up flyers and hand them out or place them on cars in the local shopping centers in your area.

  8. Advertise your products online through social media websites. The best way to find a market is to begin with your friends and family.

  9. Rent out a booth at your local flea market to sell your cosmetics line. Be sure that you do not present any false claims, as this could cause you problems with the FDA.
