How to Start a Dog Store Business
Selecting a dog store as your business of choice is both rewarding and at times difficult. This venture is rewarding in that by selling dogs not only are you generating an income but you are also providing families with loving pets. The difficult part of this venture is getting started and becoming a success.
- Analysis your credit reports. Unless you are already wealthy you need capital to invest into your dog store business. A bank or finance company is less likely to approve a loan application for anyone with a set of disastrous credit reports. This does not mean you should pay off every listing on your credit reports. However you should pay off any listings that appear negatively on these reports.
- Analysis your finances and create a budget. Determine how much upfront capital you need for this investment and the amount of payments you could afford monthly. By operating a business you have several monthly operating costs such as utilities, supplies and salaries for any employee you hire. You should include these operating costs when creating a possible monthly budget.
- Prequalify with a bank or finance company for a business loan to determine the amount of capital and/or funding for which you are approved. Obtain a copy of your prequalification from the bank or finance company.
- Research dog store franchises. Read as much information as possible to determine if which franchise is best suited for you and has the highest potential of generating a profitable return on your investment. Review your selection possibilities and make a final decision based also on price and location.
- Schedule a meeting with a representative for your selected franchise. During this meeting it is determined what equipment and supplies are sold with the franchise location. Determine from which vendors this franchise orders dogs and supplies.
- Buy your franchise. The representative for your selected franchise and your finance company will aid you in this process from beginning to end.
- Schedule the setup of your new franchise. This includes having the utilities turned on, setting up your shelves and setting up your display kennels for your dogs.
- Order your supplies and dogs you intend to sell from the predetermined vendors.
- Coordinate marketing schemes with the franchise to advertise the opening of this new location.
