Starting a flower delivery service can be done whether you have your own flower shop or not. A flower delivery service can also be started relatively cheap and still be quite lucrative. There are several different ways to start a flower delivery business.
- Decide whether or not you want to open a flower shop along with your delivery service. Many people who have a passion for flowers actually open a flower shop and then they either hire a delivery driver, or they outsource the deliveries to someone else. Being the service that a flower shop outsources to is the other way to start a flower delivery service.
- Get a cargo van or an SUV. You need a large vehicle that can carry multiple flowers and gift baskets. It's also important that the vehicle be covered to keep the flowers from being ruined by wind and rain. This is why a regular truck bed will not suffice. The vehicle you choose should be professional looking and clean. This vehicle will after all be promoting your business so looks will be important. You should also display the name of your company and a phone number or website. This will help you attract new customers.
- Get contracts with flower shops. If you plan to only have a flower delivery service and no flower shop, then you will need contracts with flower shops in order to get your business. This can be beneficial because the only advertising you will have to do is to the flower shops themselves. The flower shops will be the ones who get the customers to deliver to.
- Promote your flower shop while using the fact that you also offer delivery. This is only necessary if you have your own flower shop and not just a flower delivery service.
