How to Start a PC Repair Business
Running a computer repair business can be a way to make extra money or it can be a full-time career. Many repair services start out small and then expand once the business begins to attract more customers. Creating a business plan will help the owner to keep the repair business on the right track.
- Obtain all of the necessary licensing to operate a business in your city. Set up your bank accounts and decide where you want to operate your repair business. Working out of your home is fine to start; however, many people prefer to take their computers to a repair service that is in a commercial building. Once you have enough customers, or have the necessary capital, consider moving your shop to a separate location.
- Figure out how much you want to charge for the different types of repair services that you provide. Do some online research for help, or contact a repair service in another city for advice. Keep your rates low at first until you build a solid customer base.
- Advertise your computer repair service to help find customers. Create a website and list your qualifications and the type of services you provide. Offer a discount for customers who use your repair service for the first time. Design a coupon for customers to print, so you can keep track of how many customers use your website.
- Run an advertisement in your city’s newspaper. You can also find out when the next Yellow Pages directory is coming out, so you can place an ad for your business. Look at existing ads in the paper and your current phone book for ideas.
- Ask for referrals from your customers to help grow your business. Word of mouth is often the fastest way to gain a quality reputation. Consider taking on more help if the demand for your repair service becomes too much to handle on your own.
