How to Start a PC Repair Company
If you enjoy working with computers and are highly skilled in the area, starting a computer repair company could be an excellent business idea for you. Nearly every business and home in the United States owns a computer that at some point in time will need to be serviced.
What You'll Need:
- Computer repair toolkit
- Repair manuals
- Computer repair software
- Obtain a business license. Having a business license allows you to legally operate your computer repair services in your local area. You can contact the local city or government agency where you plan to operate your business. Generally, the office for business licenses is located near the area government offices.
- Obtain the required insurance plan for your type of business. After you've obtained your business license, a representative in the department will be able to give you specific instructions on the type of policy you'll need in order to legally operate. Keep in mind, the insurance policy is set in place to serve as protection for the client, yourself and the business.
- Take a refresher course to brush-up on your computer skills. The world of technology is ever changing and its important that you stay abreast of these changes to remain competitive in the market. Before you begin offering services to customers, you'll want to ensure that you are equipped with the latest skills and equipment to adequately service your customers.
- Gather any of the necessary equipment and materials you'll need to operate. Your inventory should include repair tools, software, manuals and replacement parts.
- Market your business. In the beginning stages, your business should be a daily talking point. From the cashier in the grocery store to the teller at the bank, tell everyone of the services you offer and how your business can be of great service to them.
