How to Start a Photography Blog

Whether you are a novice photographer interested in making some extra money or are already an established professional in the field, you should have a photo blog on the Internet. Blogs are excellent marketing tools, are easy to set up and are inexpensive to operate. Photo blogs can also serve as your portfolio and can provide an attractive way of showing off your latest work.

Items Needed:

  • Hosting site

  • Domain name

  • Photographs

  1. Decide whether you want to use a blogging site such as blogger.com or whether you would like to build your blog from scratch. If you create your own blog, you need to select a hosting site and buy your domain name. If you go with a free site, the name you choose for your blog or business will become your blogger URL. If you will pay for a domain name, then it should be the name of your photography business. You want the name of your business to be related to a theme-searchable word such as "dollypartonsphotography.com." You want the word "photography" to be part of your name.

  2. Install your photo blogging platform by purchasing a template to make this step easier. Enter "photography blog templates" in a search engine. This step is only required if you are purchasing your own domain name. If you are going with a free setup like blogger.com, you will skip this step.

  3. Post a paragraph about your most recent photo session. Include two or three of your best pictures from the session. You do not have to write a lengthy paragraph. A few highlights and an explanation of the pictures are sufficient to get things stated.
