How to Start a Weapons Collection

A weapons collection cannot only be a fun hobby but it can also be a profitable one as well.  However, there are some things that you will need to know about to make your collection pay off with big returns.  Do not worry though as this really is not as difficult it may sound.  In the end, you will find that it is actually more fun than anything.

  1. Look at the various types of weapons that exist.  You will find that there are a lot of different ones and that the price and care they need are also quite varied.  This is because there are more than firearms that are classified as weapons.  There are also swords, daggers, knives, spears and arrows too.  Decide which one or two you wish to collect.  You may also want to focus on a historical period, a country or a culture.

  2. Talk to collectors who live near you about what is readily obtainable and what is practical to collect.  They will also be able to tell you about local laws.  It is important to abide by these laws regardless as to whether or not you agree with them.

  3. Start learning more about the type of weapons you plan to collect.  Learn how they are work, how they need to be cleaned, about their historic significances, what alterations are acceptable and how to determine their worth.

  4. Attend a local weapons show.  Do not just start buying things.  Take some time out to also talk to the experts in attendance.  They will proudly share their knowledge with you.

  5. Keep your eye out so that you can attend estate sales.  You cannot only find individual pieces here but sometimes an entire collection may also be for sale for lower than market value.

  6. Maintain your collection.  Keep everything cleaned and oiled regardless as to whether or not you ever use them.

  7. Follow safety rules.  Keep your collection locked away from children.
